Soon after the Babri Masjid was demolished, the then Congress government and the President, Shankar Dayal Sharma, brought in the Acquisition of Certain Area at Ayodhya Ordinance on January 7, 1993. The bill was later passed in the parliament and came to be known as the Ayodhya Act. But it failed to pave way for justice in the case because the BJP opposed the bill vehemently. The then BJP vice-president SS Bhandari called it “partisan, petty and perverse.” Despite promising the same in their manifesto, BJP has failed the people of India and have played with the religious sentiments for votes.
