Modi govt’s specific claim that every school now has separate toilets for boys and girls in all schools is not true. There are still 20,908 schools without girls’ toilets. The top 2 states without toilets for girls are Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, where the government is allied with BJP and led by the BJP respectively. Many schools ranging from urban areas to backward, often remote areas such as Chatra district (Jharkhand) and Sedam Taluka, Gulbarga district (Karnataka), do not have toilets. Existing toilets in schools in areas such as Delhi, Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Tumkur (Karnataka), Dantewada (Chhattisgarh) and Wanaparthy (Telangana) – either already built or new – do not have water or are not maintained. That makes them useless.
